Satellite-based telecommunications may get spectrum without auction

IndiaTimes Sunday, 17 December 2023
In what may come in as a big relief to space telecommunications service providers such as Elon Musk's Starlink, Bharti's OneWeb, Amazon's Project Kuiper, and British Inmarsat, the telecom bill is likely to recommend administrative allocation of spectrum for them. However, Reliance Jio has been demanding the auction of such airwaves in line with the bidding process involved in sale of terrestrial spectrum. Sources told TOI that the draft of telecommunication bill proposes that space spectrum should not pass through the process of auction.
