Air India Incident: Runway Scare at Mumbai Airport During Heavy Rain

An Air India incident was narrowly averted at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on July 21, 2025, when flight AI 2744, an Airbus A320 from Kochi, veered off the runway during heavy rainfall. The first officer, reportedly panicked, questioned the captain’s move, as per the leaked cockpit transcript. Both pilots, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kunder, were killed along with 240 others onboard and 19 on the ground—only one person survived.
