Ex-Camelot chief Railton to be named new Post Office chair
Tuesday, 30 April 2024 () A former boss of Camelot, the National Lottery operator, will be named this week as the next chairman of the Post Office as ministers seek to draw a line under the ugly row surrounding the exit of his predecessor.
Former Post Office boss Angela van den Bogerd has left the Post Office inquiry after her second day of giving evidence. Ms van den Bogerd, who held numerous positions at the Post Office during her 35-year career, opened her evidence yesterday by saying she is "truly sorry" for the "devastation" caused to wrongly convicted sub-postmasters.

Angela van den Bogerd, a former senior director at the Post Office, arrived at the Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry on Thursday morning. She began with an apology on the first of her two days of giving evidence, telling the inquiry she was "truly, truly sorry" for the "devastation" caused to wrongly convicted sub-postmasters and their families. Errors in the Post Office's Horizon IT system meant money appeared to be missing from many branch accounts when, in fact, it was not. As a result, more than 700 sub-postmasters were handed criminal convictions between 1999 and 2015. Report by Jonesia.
