Lib Dems say Conservatives 'have to go' as they launch general election campaign

Shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves has accused Rishi Sunak of lying about Labour's tax plans in his first TV debate against Sir Keir Starmer as she revealed the party has "no plans to increase taxes on working people." Ms Reeves said: "Rishi Sunak lied twelves times in the debate last night about Labour's tax plans. The truth is it's the Conservatives who have taken the tax burden to the highest it's been in seventy years."

The Tories have announced a pledge to give 30 towns £20 million, a plan that Labour has described as a “reckless, unfunded” commitment. The Liberal Democrats want to provide free school meals to all primary school children, in a manifesto pledge they said would be funded by a tax on share buybacks.
