ITV boss says Ed Balls interview with wife Yvette Cooper was 'fair and impartial'
Wednesday, 18 September 2024 ITV's chief executive has defended allowing Ed Balls to interview his wife, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, but said it will not happen again.
A Thomas the Tank Engine superfan says it is "surreal" and "wonderful" that a long-lost pilot episode of ITV's classic children's cartoon series Thomas & Friends has been released for the first time. Yvette Cooper has revealed the findings of a review into child sex abuse by grooming gangs to MPs. The home secretary said Baroness Louise Casey’s review into child sex abuse by grooming gangs found suspects were often "disproportionately likely" to be Asian men. Yvette Cooper said she is "really worried about" increasing levels of extremism amongst young people in the country.
Asked about the issue in the Home Affairs Committee, the home secretary said: "I see it in the kinds of cases that I'm briefed on, just increasing numbers of teenagers - where there are serious concerns."

The shadow business minister has claimed the government has "lost control" as record numbers of migrants crossed the channel this weekend. More than 1,100 migrants arrived in the UK after crossing the English Channel on Saturday, the highest number recorded so far in 2025.
