Hamas is struggling to survive in Gaza amid internal rebellions by local clans and relentless Israeli military pressure. Weakened by a loss of commanders and much of its tunnel network, the group faces growing uncertainty over continued Iranian support after key Iranian figures were targeted by Israel. With Israel backing rival tribes, Hamas fighters operate autonomously but face growing challenges maintaining control. A ceasefire is urgently needed for Hamas to regroup and suppress rogue elements. The situation exposes deep fractures within Gaza and raises questions about Hamas’s future amid shifting regional dynamics.

On June 24, the UN Security Council held a briefing on Resolution 2231 (2015) and Iran’s nuclear program. Rosemary DiCarlo, Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, highlighted how recent military escalations between Israel and Iran and U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites have complicated the full implementation of the JCPOA. She condemned Iran’s missile strikes on a U.S. base in Qatar, warning of increased regional insecurity. DiCarlo stressed that the recent ceasefire offers a vital chance to avoid further conflict and achieve a peaceful resolution of Iran’s nuclear issue. The UN continues efforts to revive the JCPOA and ease tensions between Iran and Israel.
