'Extreme' weather becoming the norm in the UK, Met Office warns
Sunday, 13 July 2025 () Britain's climate is changing rapidly, with records regularly being smashed and extremes of heat and rainfall becoming the norm, the Met Office has warned.
Extremes of heat and rainfall are becoming the new normal in the UK, says the Met Office. Its State of the Climate report 2024 highlights how the UK is now about 1.24C warmer than from 1961 to 1990. The report also confirms for the first time that sea level rise in the UK is higher than the global average, increasing risks of coastal flooding and erosion. Report by Jonesia. The UK has experienced its sunniest spring on record, with four days of the season still to go. Some 630 hours of sunshine were clocked up across the country between March 1 and May 27, according to provisional figures from the Met Office.
