Tuesday, 13 June 2023 The US views its ties with India as being more important than any of its other bilateral relations during this "incredibly challenging period", a senior official of the Joe Biden administration said on Tuesday. In acknowledgment of India's growing global clout, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden for a State visit, which will include a State dinner on June 22.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Friday as he wrapped up a three-day visit to China dominated by contentious issues and warnings from his hosts of another “downward spiral” in relations. The two met Friday afternoon local time at the Great Hall of the People, an ornate and cavernous building next to Tiananmen Square. Blinken told Xi that President Joe Biden had sent him to China to “seek to deepen areas of cooperation as well as to responsibly manage the differences that we have.” Xi noted that this year is the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and China, and said the two countries “should be partners rather than adversaries.”

Iranian singer Shervin Hajipour, a Grammy award winner presented by US First Lady Jill Biden, has been sentenced to over three years in prison for his anthem supporting the 2022 protests following the death of Mahsa Amini. Hajipour shared part of the judgement against him on Instagram, coinciding with Iran's parliamentary election day.
