Remembering captain Kargil hero Vikram Batra on his death anniversary: 15 facts
Friday, 7 July 2023 Captain Vikram Batra, an officer in the Indian Army, known for his heroic actions during the Kargil War in 1999,achieved martyrdom during the Kargil War in 1999. He was serving as a captain in the 13th battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles. On July 7, 1999, during the operations to capture Point 4875, also known as "Point 5140," Batra and his team encountered heavy enemy fire. Despite facing grave danger, he led his troops from the front and managed to successfully capture the strategic peak.
The forest department in Nainital has called for the assistance of the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army to combat a relentless forest fire that has been raging for over 36 hours, consuming numerous hectares of lush greenery. Helicopters have been deployed by the district administration to aid in firefighting efforts. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced plans to convene a meeting to address the escalating situation of the Nainital forest fire in Haldwani district.
