Away at school, kids unaware of loss of families in landslide

IndiaTimes Saturday, 22 July 2023
Nine-year-old Vasant Pirkad is unaware of the tragedy that has befallen him — 12 of his family members, including parents, are feared dead in the Irshalwadi landslide tragedy in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Wednesday night. Similarly, three sisters — Radhika Pardhi (12), Monica (9) and Madhuri (4) — have lost seven family members. Being away at boarding school saved the lives of Vasant, the Pardhi sisters and many other children, but they are, in all probability, now orphaned.
