Cauvery row: Karnataka hints at not releasing full quota to Tamil Nadu

IndiaTimes Friday, 22 September 2023
Karnataka may not release the full daily quota of 5,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu as directed by the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA). The state cabinet discussed defying the directive but did not come to a conclusion. Karnataka will move the Supreme Court and CWMA to explain its constraints. The government is currently under fire from agitating farmers in the Cauvery basin who have called for a strike. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar appealed for the strike to be dropped, saying it would not help the state's cause.
