IndiaTimes Saturday, 7 October 2023
A mother in Goa, India, has successfully petitioned for Glanzmann Thrombosthenia, a rare disorder, to be recognized in the National Rare Disease Policy. The mother, whose son has the disorder, is now advocating for it to be classified as a disability. This would allow her to claim aid under various schemes for disabled persons. The Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also called for the recognition of other rare diseases and the inclusion of children with rare diseases in social protection benefits.
