New 4km road in Uttarakhand to cut distance to China border, Gangotri

IndiaTimes Monday, 9 October 2023
The Army's Border Roads Organisation (BRO) plans to construct a 4 km-long double-lane road to connect to the Gangotri national highway in Uttarkashi district. The road will bypass a treacherous stretch of the highway and make the journey to Gangotri shrine shorter by 10 km. It will also facilitate the movement of military convoys towards the India-China border. However, local villagers are concerned about the impact on their livelihood as some villages will be left isolated and dependent on tourism.
