MP politics: The why and how of creating new districts
Monday, 9 October 2023
Madhya Pradesh has increased its number of districts from 45 to 55, making it the second-largest state in terms of both area and the number of districts in India. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan created three new districts within 40 days, which can provide electoral advantages for the government. However, Chouhan is still second to Rajasthan's Ashok Gehlot, who created 20 new districts in just five years. Madhya Pradesh now plans to create new districts only under a newly formed government.
