Data from the EMRI 108 emergency services shows an alarming increase in the number of cardiac emergency calls from patients under the age of 40 during the Navratri festival in Gujarat. The share of cardiac emergency calls from this age group rose from the usual average of 31% to 39%. The biggest increase was seen in the 21 to 30 years age group, with a rise from 12% to 15.5%. The number of sudden deaths during garba dancing was also higher than usual. However, city-based cardiologists did not observe a significant spike in cardiac emergencies.
