Modi government tried to 'weaken' 2010 act meant for protecting monuments, archaeological sites: Congress
The Congress party has accused the Modi government of attempting to weaken a law meant for the protection of monuments and archaeological sites. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh shared a media report on the National Monuments Authority (NMA) releasing draft heritage bylaws for a centrally protected monument in Bihar. Ramesh praised this development but stated that the Modi government has tried to undermine the 2010 Act. He also emphasized the need to strengthen the NMA and maintain its professional character.
