A male contraceptive is closer to becoming a reality as a non-hormonal injectable has cleared phase-3 trials, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research. The delay in the development of male contraceptives can be attributed to factors such as societal norms and men's different calculus of risk compared to women. In India, the burden of family planning falls largely on women, with female sterilization being more widely adopted despite vasectomies being safer and non-invasive. Making male contraceptives accessible is crucial for family planning.
