Delhi air quality: Winter and bad air combine to worsen health woes
Wednesday, 1 November 2023 The rising pollution levels in Delhi are causing a deterioration in the respiratory conditions of people with asthma or COPD, despite being on medication. Many of these patients have been admitted to hospitals, with some requiring ICU admission. To address this issue, RML Hospital has started a pollution-related illness clinic that offers treatment and advice on safeguarding health from pollution. Other hospitals are also reporting a significant increase in patients with respiratory ailments and are providing specialized care to tackle this problem. Vaccinations and taking preventive measures like wearing masks and avoiding smoking indoors are being recommended.
Delhi’s air quality remained in the very poor category on Thursday as the city was on the brink of a public health emergency with an air quality index (AQI) of 364 on Wednesday being the worst this season.
