Thursday, 2 November 2023 Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has exuded his confidence in his party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning the Mizoram Assembly Elections, saying that the people of the north-eastern state will definitely consider that a BJP-led government is 'absolutely necessary' if Mizoram is to develop further. The Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush visited Mizoram to campaign for BJP candidates for the November 7 assembly elections.

Polling in 102 parliamentary seats across 21 states and Union Territories in the first phase of Lok Sabha Elections commenced at 7 am on April 19 and ended at 6 pm. Over 102 parliamentary constituencies in 21 states and union territories headed to the polling booth on Friday, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. West Bengal recorded the highest turnout till 5 PM at 77.57 per cent, followed by Tripura at 76.10 per cent. Voter turnout in Assam stood at 70.77 per cent, while Manipur recorded a voter turnout of 68.58 per cent till 5 PM.
