With BJP dragging its feet on leader of opposition in Karnataka, HD Kumaraswamy likely to be face of opposition

The delay in appointing a leader of the opposition by the BJP in Karnataka has given the JD(S) an opportunity to rejoice, as its floor leader HD Kumaraswamy could now become the face of the opposition. The BJP's failure to consider other candidates suggests that they are unable to find an "acceptable" candidate to lead the attack against the Congress government. While the BJP maintains that an opposition leader will be finalized before the winter session, some MLAs believe it will only happen after the Lok Sabha polls. In the absence of a leader of the opposition, Kumaraswamy is seen as the only credible face in the opposition ranks. However, he may face opposition from his own party members who are upset with the alliance with the BJP. JD(S) is still trying to convince its MLAs to join hands with the BJP.
