10 Manipur MLAs, 7 from BJP, allege ‘police excesses’

IndiaTimes Friday, 3 November 2023
Ten tribal MLAs from Manipur, including seven from the BJP, have appealed to the Union home ministry to intervene in alleged police excesses on villagers during a hunt for the killers of a police officer. The MLAs have requested the replacement of state police with neutral central forces after claiming that properties were destroyed and civilians were forced to flee into nearby jungles. The appeal comes amid public protests demanding the removal of state forces, with organisers stating it is not against the Indian government but against the "excessive use of executive power" by the chief minister.
