Ahead of COP meet, India to expand coal power capacity

IndiaTimes Monday, 6 November 2023
India is planning to increase its coal-fired power generation capacity to meet the surge in electricity demand driven by its growing economy. Power Minister R K Singh stated that an additional 30,000 MW of thermal generation capacity needs to be constructed, on top of the 50,000 MW already in progress. Singh emphasized that India would not compromise on power availability for growth, even if it means adding more coal-based capacity.
