Nod sought for contempt case against Uddhav Thackeray
Thursday, 9 November 2023 A journalist has filed a contempt petition against Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray for his derogatory remarks towards Chief Justice DY Chandrachud in a Dussehra speech. The journalist alleges that Thackeray's comments are an attempt to influence pending cases in the Supreme Court and undermine the dignity of the court and the CJI's office. He has sought the attorney general's permission to file the petition, stating that Thackeray's statements amount to criminal contempt under the Contempt of Court Act.
Protests by the Maratha community in Maharashtra intensified, with highway blockades and railway track obstructions. Demonstrators blocked the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway, causing traffic disruptions, while another group obstructed railway tracks in Solapur. In Jalna, a panchayat samiti office was set on fire during a protest. Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange continued his hunger strike, emphasising the community's demand for complete reservation. Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray urged the Centre to address the Maratha reservation issue, while Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed efforts to resolve the matter. WATCH.
