Nagaland reserves 1/3rd seats for women in ULBs

IndiaTimes Friday, 10 November 2023
The Nagaland assembly has unanimously passed a bill reserving one-third of seats in urban local bodies (ULB) for women. This comes after two decades of conflict between two articles of the Indian Constitution. The bill does not provide one-third reservation for the offices of the chairperson in ULBs and only allows indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland to be eligible for ULB elections. The state government hopes that with the passage of this bill, ULBs will be better administered and more developed.
