6 out of 10 Mumbaikars have weight issues, are prone to diabetes: BMC

According to data from BMC's health department, 60% of Mumbaikars have weight issues that make them prone to diabetes. Currently, 18% of people aged 18 to 69 have impaired fasting blood sugar levels or diabetes, and another 16% have prediabetes. The risk of type 2 diabetes is higher in obese and sedentary individuals, with cardiovascular diseases contributing to a quarter of deaths in the city. The BMC has implemented a screening program for diabetes and hypertension, testing over 60,000 people monthly. On World Diabetes Day, free testing is available at various locations in Mumbai.
