SC says can't pass directions on regulating coaching institutes, 'pressure' from parents behind suicides
Monday, 20 November 2023
The Supreme Court of India has stated that intense competition and parental pressure on students preparing for competitive exams are the main reasons behind the rising number of suicides in the country. The court, however, expressed helplessness in passing directions to regulate coaching institutes, suggesting that the petitioner approach the government instead. The plea filed by a Mumbai-based doctor sought regulation of profit-seeking coaching institutes and highlighted the lack of oversight leading to student suicides.
