Seizures of over 1,760 crore reported in 5 poll-bound states
Tuesday, 21 November 2023 The Election Commission reported a seven-fold increase in the value of seizures of cash, liquor, drugs, and other potential inducements in the five poll-going states of India. The total value of seizures reached Rs 1,760 crore, up from Rs 239 crore in 2018. Rajasthan and Telangana accounted for nearly three-fourths of the total value of seizures. It is pertinent to mention that Telangana had the highest value of seizures, while Rajasthan with the highest value of freebies.
The Delhi Police initiated action after a BJP complaint about a "doctored video" allegedly showing Amit Shah advocating the removal of SC/ST reservation. BJP claims the original video referred to Muslim reservation in Telangana. Social media, including Congress handles, shared the video, sparking controversy.
