IndiaTimes Friday, 24 November 2023
A cybercrook tricked a woman by pretending to be her father's friend and siphoned off Rs 1 lakh from her account. The woman, a teacher, lodged a complaint at a police station but faced delays due to the staff's inability to understand English or Hindi. The miscreant used the woman's UPI ID and sent her a message on PhonePe, deducting money without OTPs. The woman called her father and realized the fraud. Despite facing indifference, the police eventually took steps to freeze the miscreant's account.
