Government plans onion buy to give farmers right price

IndiaTimes Monday, 11 December 2023
The government will procure 2 lakh tonnes of kharif onion from farmers to ensure they get the right price, countering the sponsored protest against the export ban. Wholesale and retail prices are expected to decrease with the availability of the new crop, and the government has increased the buffer stock limit for market intervention. The ban on exports will not affect farmers as government agencies are procuring onions from mandis. The delay in kharif onion sowing and short supply have led to higher prices.
