Foreign aid to NGOs up 14% since 2019-20 despite curbs

IndiaTimes Tuesday, 19 December 2023
The home ministry on Tuesday informed the Lok Sabha that foreign contributions totalling Rs 55,742 crore were received by 13,520 associations or NGOs across the country during the three-year period from 2019-20 to 2021-22. In comparison, the three-year period from 2016-17 to 2018-19 had seen foreign funding inflow of Rs 48,785 crore to NGOs, going by the home ministry's past replies to Parliament questions. This translates to a 14% rise in foreign receipts of NGOs, notwithstanding the tightening of scrutiny, transparency and accountability norms for foreign funding.
