Uttarakhand likely to tighten law on land sale to outsiders

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 27 December 2023
Uttarakhand is considering amendments in its land law following protests in many districts. The state may make it tougher for people from other states to buy land, including in municipal areas. Restrictions on sale and purchase of land in rural areas may be imposed, with a possible limit of 250 sqm. A committee has been formed to study a draft report and make recommendations, which may include limiting land transactions in the hills to 12.5 acres. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has stated that a decision in favor of the people of Uttarakhand will be made soon.
