Govt issues guideline on highway construction with ‘inert soil’ generated from legacy municipal waste

IndiaTimes Thursday, 28 December 2023
The road transport ministry has issued guidelines for the use of "inert soil" from legacy municipal waste in the construction of National Highways. This enables cities and towns to dispose of legacy wastes and free up urban land. The guidelines specify that future highway construction projects must use inert soil in the embankments, whenever it is available. Inert soil is clean and not contaminated with harmful substances. Successful pilot projects have already been carried out in Delhi-NCR and Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, demonstrating the effectiveness of using inert material in construction.

In the sun-drenched haven of India's west coast lies a network of highways and roads that weave through the vibrant tapestry of Goa, painting a picture of exploration and serenity. But perhaps the true magic of Goa's highways lies in their ability to transport you not just from one place to another, but from the mundane to the extraordinary. Goa is home to one of the few places in the world where you can find naturally occurring bioluminescent beaches. The coastal State of Goa attracts thousands of tourists from across the world every year. The length of National Highways in the State till 2014 was 262 km. In 2018, the National Highway span in the State, including in-principle length, reached 668 km. #GoaHighways #AtalSetu #NewZuariBridge #InfrastructureDevelopment #Connectivity #TrafficFlow #TourismGoa #EconomicGrowth #SustainableDevelopment #ModiGovernment ~HT.96~PR.282~
