Vijayakant, the leader of the opposition in the Tamil Nadu assembly, had a journey from a rice mill owner's son to a star in the film industry. He eventually launched DMDK and formed alliances with AIADMK and the NDA. However, his political career faced setbacks when he lost the leader of the opposition's post and his four-party alliance failed in the 2016 assembly elections. Throughout his career, Vijayakant remained known for his unpublicised charity acts.
