Govt procures 25,000 tonnes of kharif onion so far for buffer stock

The Centre has procured 25,000 tonnes of onion from the 2023 kharif season for its buffer stock. The government aims to maintain a buffer stock of 7 lakh tonnes for the 2023-24 fiscal, compared to 3 lakh tonnes last year. The government has already procured 5 lakh tonnes of onion from the rabi season and is currently purchasing 2 lakh tonnes of kharif onion. The average retail price of onion has decreased by 27.58% to Rs 42 per kg due to the offloading of 3.04 lakh tonnes of onion from the buffer stock.
