Tribal rights activists condemn large scale tree-felling in Hasdeo after “fake gram sabha”

IndiaTimes Wednesday, 3 January 2024
Chhattisgarh Bachao Andolan highlights the destruction caused by large-scale tree-cutting in Hasdeo Aranya forests for coal mining, leading to the repression of tribal activists and communities. Fake gram sabhas are being organized for coal blocks allocated to corporate houses. The destruction of Hasdeo forests is driven by corporate profit, not coal demand. Adivasi communities across the country suffer the greatest cost of development schemes while being excluded from progress. The brutal treatment of adivasis protesting deforestation and the criminalization of their protests is a consequence of the pursuit of a 'development' agenda.
