UP: 15 get life term for razing Dalit homes, killing infant

IndiaTimes Thursday, 1 February 2024
A dedicated SC/ST court in Mathura has handed down life imprisonment to 15 individuals belonging to an upper caste community, marking the conclusion of a harrowing saga of caste-based violence that unfolded over two decades. The origins of this case trace back to January 23, 2001, when a group of men in Datiya village, Mathura, unleashed a barrage of gunfire on Dalit villagers and set ablaze their homes following a heated dispute over gram panchayat land.
