HC junks DMK mantri acquittal, orders retrial in 2012 graft case

Less than a year after DMK minister I Periyasamy was acquitted in a 12-year-old case involving allegedly illegal land allotment, the Madras High Court has set aside the special court's verdict. The court has ordered a recommencement of the trial and scheduled proceedings 'day to day' with the aim of concluding the case by July 31. The judge stated that the previous ruling suffered from procedural impropriety and illegality, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the legitimacy of the administration of criminal justice.
