Saturday, 9 November 2024 A minor student in Kanpur, preparing for NEET, was allegedly held hostage and raped by two of her teachers, Sahil Siddiqui and Vikas Porwal, for over six months. Siddiqui allegedly filmed the assault and used it to blackmail her. The survivor filed a complaint a year later after seeing a video of Siddiqui harassing another student. Both teachers have been arrested.
In a stunning betrayal, Turkish construction firm Gulermak has reportedly fled Kanpur, leaving behind ₹80 crore in unpaid dues and 53 Indian contractors high and dry. The company, responsible for the underground section of the Kanpur Metro, delayed payments for nearly ten months—then vanished. This came in the wake of nationwide anti-Turkey protests tied to Ankara's stance in the India-Pakistan conflict. Despite repeated complaints, UPMRC and government authorities took no action, allowing foreign officials to evade accountability.
