IMD issues red alert for four districts in Kerala; heavy rains expected on Dec 2
Sunday, 1 December 2024 The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for four districts in Kerala, including Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur, predicting extremely heavy rainfall on December 2. The State Disaster Management Authority advises residents in landslide-prone areas and along riverbanks to relocate. Traffic regulation and caution against waterlogging have also been recommended.
A massive explosion rocked the Singapore-flagged container ship MV Wan Hai 503 off Keralaβs coast on Monday. The underdeck blast triggered thick smoke and fire, prompting 18 of the 22 crew to abandon ship. The Indian Navy swiftly diverted INS Surat for rescue, while the Coast Guard joined evacuation efforts. The vessel, en route from Colombo to Mumbai, remains adrift and burning. The Navy is deploying a Dornier aircraft to assess the situation. The incident follows a recent cargo ship sinking nearby.
