SC: Legislatures should study efficacy of laws periodically
Tuesday, 7 January 2025 Supreme Court advised Parliament and assemblies to periodically review their enacted laws, approximately every 10, 25, or 50 years, to ensure they meet desired goals, and address deficiencies. The court declined to alter the 45-day limit for filing election petitions, as requested by BJP's Maneka Gandhi.
Olivia Campbell-Cavendish of the Trans Legal Clinic says the Supreme Court’s ruling on the legal definition of a woman has “horrendous” impacts on trans people, but stresses the appeal is about fairness and equity for all.
