Soldiers at Siachen glacier now have high-speed internet
Monday, 13 January 2025 Reliance Jio, in collaboration with the Indian Army, has become the first telecom operator to extend 4G and 5G network connectivity to the Siachen glacier. Utilizing pre-configured, indigenous full-stack 5G technology, the deployment at 16,000 feet in extreme conditions at Siachen was made possible with significant logistical support from the Army.
India has approved its biggest-ever defense deal, worth $7.3 billion, to procure 156 Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) for the Indian Army and Air Force. These helicopters, developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), are equipped to operate in extreme conditions, making them ideal for deployment in sensitive areas like the Siachen glacier and Eastern Ladakh. With advanced features such as the ability to take off and land at altitudes of 5,000 meters, these helicopters will significantly enhance India's military capabilities in the face of regional threats, particularly from China and Pakistan.
