Israel’s Gaza military operations are triggering a growing diplomatic backlash, with Australia and New Zealand signaling plans to formally recognize a Palestinian state at the UN this September. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says the move aligns with global momentum for a two-state solution, joined by more than 15 nations including France, the UK, and Canada. Albanese and New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Winston Peters have also criticized Israel’s defiance of international law, warning that Gaza’s situation has reached catastrophic levels.

Hamas has fiercely condemned Israel’s limited humanitarian airdrops in Gaza, branding them a “deceptive” ploy to manage — not end — starvation in the besieged enclave. The Palestinian group accused Tel Aviv of using such aid theatrics to mask ongoing war crimes, including the blockade that has led to over 122 starvation deaths — 83 of them children. As the food crisis deepens, with over 100,000 children at risk, Gaza’s Government Media Office has warned of a catastrophic famine.
Meanwhile, therapeutic food supplies are almost exhausted, threatening thousands more. Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has declared the Israeli siege in violation of international law. At least 11 displaced people were injured after aid parcels fell on tents. Since October 7, 2023, over 59,733 Palestinians — mostly women and children — have been killed in Gaza, with 144,477 injured. The siege, starvation, and blockade continue — and so does the international outcry.
