Census from March 2027: Caste enumeration to be part of exercise; early start in J&K, Uttarakhand

The next nationwide census will begin on March 1, 2027, with Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Uttarakhand starting earlier in October 2026. For the first time in over seven decades, the census will include caste enumeration to ensure transparency and national consistency.
