India to begin next Census in April 2026: Caste data to be included after 93 years; March 2027 reference date

The next nationwide census will begin on March 1, 2027, with Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Uttarakhand starting earlier in October 2026. For the first time in over seven decades, the census will include caste enumeration to ensure transparency and national consistency.
