'Like cat guarding milk': Rajnath Singh slams UNSC for naming Pakistan in anti-terror panel; says PoK will join 'Bharat' soon
Tuesday, 10 June 2025 Defence minister Rajnath Singh has strongly criticised the UNSC's decision to appoint Pakistan as vice-chair of its counter-terrorism panel. "What is astonishing is that this Counter-Terrorism panel, was formed after the 9/11 terror attacks. Pakistan had sheltered the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks. This (decision) is akin to cat guarding the milk," Singh said.

China has said it is ready for talks with India to negotiate and manage the long-disputed border following a direct push by Indian defence minister Rajnath Singh. The statement comes days after Singh met his Chinese counterpart Admiral Dong Jun at the SCO meet in Qingdao.
Singh had urged for a permanent solution to the LAC demarcation and troop de-escalation, referring to a “structured roadmap” for resolving tensions. Beijing responded that while the border issue is complicated, established diplomatic and military mechanisms are in place, and both sides must work to keep peace and stability. The 2020 Galwan Valley clash — which claimed 20 Indian and at least 4 Chinese soldiers — had tanked bilateral relations, but recent developments such as talks resuming and Kailash Mansarovar Yatra reopening signal cautious optimism. Both sides have agreed to continue dialogue through Special Representative mechanisms and cross-border initiatives.

Tensions flared at the United Nations Security Council as China’s Permanent Representative, Fu Cong, fired back at the United States over its accusations regarding the South China Sea. In a fiery exchange during the UNSC debate on multilateralism and peaceful dispute resolution, Fu accused Washington of hypocrisy, interference, and fueling instability in the region.
While the U.S. criticized China’s actions, Beijing firmly defended its territorial sovereignty and maritime claims, calling the American narrative misleading and dangerous. With both sides trading barbs in front of global representatives, the showdown raises fresh questions about who is truly threatening peace in the Indo-Pacific.
