PASSEX 2025: INS Tabar joins UK carrier strike group in Arabian sea; see pics
Wednesday, 11 June 2025 The Indian Navy and the UK's Carrier Strike Group conducted a joint naval exercise in the North Arabian Sea, strengthening maritime security cooperation. Simultaneously, naval staff talks between India and Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur focused on enhancing bilateral naval engagements and future collaborations.
Yemen’s Ansarullah leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi has declared that the reopening of Israel’s Eilat port is now “impossible,” reaffirming Yemen’s firm blockade on Israeli-linked shipping through the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Arabian Sea. In a defiant televised address, al-Houthi warned all shipping companies against aiding Israel, promising decisive retaliation. He cited the Yemeni Navy's missile strike on the ETERNITY C and the dramatic sinking of the Magic Seas as warnings.
Yemen’s naval campaign began in November 2023 in solidarity with Gaza, following Israel’s bombing campaign. Al-Houthi denounced Israeli airstrikes on Hudaydah and praised Yemen’s missile defense systems. He stated that despite near-total U.S. backing, Israel had failed militarily, especially in Gaza, where resistance fighters killed and wounded nearly 20 Israeli soldiers in a single operation. The Red Sea front, he asserted, now belongs to the resistance — and Eilat is no longer open.

A dramatic accident has rocked the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) as one of its US-made F/A-18D Hornet fighter jets crashed during a night operation at Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport in Kuantan on Thursday, Aug 21. The incident occurred around 9:05 pm, prompting immediate response teams to secure the area. Thankfully, both the pilot and co-pilot managed to escape unharmed, confirmed Pahang police chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman. The RMAF issued a statement assuring that urgent measures are underway and further updates will follow. This accident has sparked renewed attention on Malaysia’s Hornet fleet, which has faced issues before. In 2019, a similar F/A-18D jet at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition ingested a foreign object mid-display, leading to an engine fire, though it landed safely. Malaysia currently operates just eight F/A-18D jets, raising concerns about the future readiness of its aging fleet.

Cambodia is set to nominate U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, crediting his pivotal role in negotiating a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand after a deadly five-day border conflict. Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol hailed Trump’s “great efforts for peace,” saying his intervention — including threats to pull out of trade talks — forced both Southeast Asian nations to come to the negotiating table.
The ceasefire, brokered in Malaysia, ended the region’s worst violence in over a decade, which left at least 43 people dead and displaced over 300,000. Trump said the war “would have turned nasty,” but was halted by leveraging trade diplomacy. This marks Trump’s third recent Nobel recommendation, following nominations by Israel and Pakistan for mediating other global crises. The Cambodian leader also praised Trump for reducing tariffs on Cambodian exports, sparing the nation’s garment and footwear sector from economic collapse.

Tens of thousands rallied in Kuala Lumpur demanding Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s resignation over rising living costs and tax policies. Protesters, clad in black “Step Down Anwar” shirts, marched to Independence Square as police estimated over 18,000 attendees. Former PM Mahathir, 100, joined the protests, accusing Anwar of misuse of power and judicial interference. In a high-stakes meeting amid growing trade hostilities, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Kuala Lumpur during the East Asia Summit. This marked Rubio's first Asia visit since taking office, aiming to reaffirm U.S. presence in the Indo-Pacific. However, Trump's sudden tariff offensive—slapping 25-40% duties on major Asian economies—has intensified regional friction. China condemned the U.S. move as "bullying behavior," warning nations against cutting Beijing from global supply chains.
Rubio also discussed security and tech cooperation with Japanese, South Korean, and Southeast Asian leaders. While Rubio remained tight-lipped during the talks, Wang launched a blistering critique of U.S. policies. Meanwhile, ASEAN ministers voiced alarm over trade disruptions, signaling a tilt toward diversification. With deadlines looming and diplomacy on edge, the clash of giants over Asia’s future has just begun.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Kuala Lumpur as Russia launched its most intense wave of strikes on Kyiv and Kharkiv in months. Amid mounting civilian casualties, Rubio expressed frustration at Moscow’s obstruction of ceasefire efforts. The meeting marked a major shift in Trump’s Ukraine policy, with the U.S. now viewing Putin—not Kyiv—as the main obstacle to peace. Trump’s leaked rebuke of Putin signals Washington’s harder stance as the war intensifies.
