VIDEO: US Made Malaysian FA-18 Jet Crashes | Jet Turns To Fireball Moments After Take-off
A dramatic accident has rocked the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) as one of its US-made F/A-18D Hornet fighter jets crashed during a night operation at Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport in Kuantan on Thursday, Aug 21.
The incident occurred around 9:05 pm, prompting immediate response teams to secure the area.
Thankfully, both the pilot and co-pilot managed to escape unharmed, confirmed Pahang police chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman.
The RMAF issued a statement assuring that urgent measures are underway and further updates will follow.
This accident has sparked renewed attention on Malaysia’s Hornet fleet, which has faced issues before.
In 2019, a similar F/A-18D jet at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition ingested a foreign object mid-display, leading to an engine fire, though it landed safely.
Malaysia currently operates just eight F/A-18D jets, raising concerns about the future readiness of its aging fleet.
