MiG-21 retires after 62 yrs in service: IAF bids farewell to ‘flying coffin’; why it's a big deal

The Indian Air Force will retire the MiG-21 fighter jet after six decades of service. A farewell ceremony is scheduled for September 19 at Chandigarh airbase. Squadron 23, known as the Panthers, will be retired. The MiG-21s played roles in wars and operations. The retirement reduces the Air Force's combat strength.
