Acquisition of another 97 Tejas, 6 AEW&C aircraft gets CCS nod
Tuesday, 19 August 2025 () India has approved the acquisition of 97 Tejas Mark-1A fighter jets and six AEW&C aircraft to bolster its air capabilities, collectively valued at Rs 85,500 crore. This move aims to address the combined threat from China and Pakistan, enhancing surveillance and combat readiness.
In a historic first, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh confirmed that India shot down five Pakistani jets during Operation Sindoor — the largest surface-to-air Kill in IAF history. Using advanced S-400 air defence systems, the IAF destroyed enemy aircraft, including an AEW&C at 300 km range, crippling Pakistan’s air defence and damaging multiple F-16s at Shahbaz Jacobabad airfield. Command centres, radars, and hangars were also hit as India asserted dominance during the 80–90 hours of intense fighting. This marks a new chapter in modern aerial warfare.
