Bahrain prisoners on hunger strike over jail conditions

Inmates at Bahrain's Jau prison have launched a hunger strike in protest against harsh living conditions and restrictions on prayer, according to activists. Jau prison holds dissidents imprisoned during a 2011 crackdown on Shiite-led protests. The prisoners are calling for proper medical care, access to education and permission to pray together at a prison mosque while they are kept in their cells 23 hours a day.
